Homemade Beef Burgers
Everybody will enjoy these juicy, flavoursome burgers!
These BEEF BURGER patties are deliciously juicy and have a classic flavour which will appeal to all ages.
Kids who like to cook can take charge of the kitchen and easily put them together for a mid-week dinner, or make a batch for the BBQ or a birthday party.
We’ve kept the other ingredients pretty basic, as sometimes, a classic cheeseburger with salad is just the best, but feel free to get as creative as you like. This is particularly nice if serving your BEEF BURGERS buffet-style, letting your guests decide from a choice of different fillings and condiments.
The recipe below makes 10 to 12 small, sliders-size, BEEF BURGERS, but of course you can shape them whatever size you prefer - from bite-size mini to mega burgers!
You can also make the patties in advance for storage, by layering them on a tray or container with baking paper, covering and them keeping in the fridge for up to 3 days (or freeze for a later date).
Beef Burgers
Makes 10 – 12 slider-size burgers
Ingredients:
For the patties:
500g prime beef mince
1 onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 Tbsp BBQ sauce
2 Tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped (optional)
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 – 3 Tbsp breadcrumbs
Salt and pepper
Oil or Spray oil, for frying (or use the BBQ)
To serve:
Cheese, sliced
Tomato, sliced
Gherkins, sliced
Lettuce, washed
Slider-size burger buns (we used brioche buns)
Butter, Mayo or your choice of spread
Method:
1. In a bowl, add all the ingredients for the beef patties (apart from the frying oil) and mix until well combined. Check seasoning by rolling about 1/2 tsp mixture and cooking in the microwave for 20 seconds (check if fully cooked by cutting in half before tasting it 😊). If you feel it needs more seasoning, add more salt and pepper.
2. To make sure all my patties are the same size, I usually roll them into golf-ball-sized meatballs – this way I can easily spot if some are much larger than others and adjust. Once all balls are rolled, place one at a time on the flat palm of your hand and flatten and shape patties using fingertips from the opposite hand. Place patties back on the lined tray and place tray in the fridge.
3. Meanwhile, preparing the remaining ingredients: Slice cheese, tomato and gherkins. Wash and dry lettuce. Halve bread rolls and place them cut side up on a tray. Lightly toast rolls under a hot grill (keep a close watch as bread can burn quickly). Reserve.
4. Heat a frying pan on medium-high heat and lightly brush or spray with the frying oil. Cook patties for a 3 -4 minutes until browned in one side. Flip the patties and place a piece of sliced cheese on each, to melt, while the bottom side of the patties finish cooking (if you feel patties are cooking too fast, turn down the heat a notch). Repeat with remaining patties until all are cooked.
5. Finish beef burgers by spreading the bottom halves of bread buns with a little butter, mayo, mustard or your favourite sauce/ spread. Add some lettuce, a slice of tomato, the burger patty with melted cheese and a couple of slices of gherkins. Cover with the bread buns tops and serve!
